This pound cake has a hidden heart inside and is so easy to make. You can use this technique for any occasion.

STEP 1 (preparing red cake)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1,5 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • red food colour

Instruction:

  1. Preheat oven to 175 ℃ / 350°F.
  2. In large mixing bowl beat butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Add one egg at a time and beat each egg in before adding the next.
  4. In a separate bowl add in the flour and baking powder. Whisk to combine.
  5. Add flour with baking powder to batter.
  6. Mix everything carefully using a wooden spoon or plastic spatula.
  7. Add food colour, mix until you get the right colour.
  8. Pour batter into prepared baking pan ( 23cm/9″ ).
  9. Bake until the toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean (  about 40-50 min. )

STEP 2  (making red hearts)    

  1. Cut the cake into slice
  2. Take a heart shape cookie cutter and cut out a heart shape in every slice of cake .

STEP 3 (preparing vanilla batter)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1,5 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instruction:

  1. Preheat oven to 175 ℃ / 350°F.
  2. In large mixing bowl beat butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Add one egg at a time and beat each egg in before adding the next.
  4. In a separate bowl add in the flour and baking powder. Whisk to combine.
  5. Add flour with baking powder to batter.
  6. Mix everything carefully using a wooden spoon or plastic spatula.
  7. Fill 1/4 of the greased pan with vanilla batter.
  8. Place the hearts next to each other. Make sure there is no gap in between 2 hearts.
  9. Add the remaining vanilla batter over the hearts and around the hearts.
  10. Pour the rest of the batter on top to cover.
  11. Bake until the toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean (  about 40-50 min. )
